Global Access Point Welcomes Shawn E. Peterson, VP of Strategic Initiatives and General Counsel

South Bend, IN, October 1, 2012 – Union Station Technology Center (USTC) is pleased to announce that Shawn E. Peterson has been appointed its Vice President of Strategic Initiatives and General Counsel. Mr. Peterson will oversee USTC’s strategic initiatives and its legal affairs, and join as a member of the company’s enterprise management team. “We are excited to have Mr. Peterson join our team,” said Kevin M. Smith, Chief Executive Officer of USTC. “With over 40% annual growth, we are seeing an enhanced need for our public and private cloud, and super and enterprise computing services. Mr. Peterson will help us expand our organization and our efforts.”

USTC is the largest datacenter in the region, the 2nd largest carrier hotel in the State of Indiana and named one of Indiana’s 2013 Companies to Watch for its growth. USTC also entered into a unique public-private agreement with the City of South Bend to develop the “Renaissance District” on the southern edge of downtown South Bend. The Renaissance District is an effort to renovate the former Studebaker corridor and develop a technology platform to enable a new wave of data and technology companies to thrive in South Bend. “It is an honor to join USTC’s dynamic team,” said Peterson. “Their passion, expertise, and years of business experience have the ability to not only transform the industry but our community. Prior to joining USTC, Mr. Peterson practiced law with Krieg DeVault, LLP as a full-time member of the firm’s Innovative Finance and Incentives, Municipal, and Alternative Energy teams. Mr. Peterson will maintain an affiliation with the firm in an Of Counsel capacity. Previously, Mr. Peterson also served as President and CEO of Corporate Partnership for Economic Growth (CPEG). During his tenure, he secured more than $3.25 Million for regional entrepreneurship initiatives from corporate, philanthropic, and governmental sources. He facilitated a partnership with the International Center (Indianapolis) to expand their services to Northern Indiana entities seeking to welcome international professionals and students relocating to the region. Mr. Peterson was also an advocate for expansions in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education at both the secondary and post-secondary level. Mr. Peterson led an effort to partner with Conexus Indiana to enhance the region’s logistic industry and facilitated an initiative in partnership with OrthoWorx, Inc., Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership, and Northwest Indiana partners to enhance regional connectivity along US 30.

Prior to that, Mr. Peterson served as Vice President and General Counsel for the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) and negotiated agreements that led to more than 7,500 jobs and $1.3 billion in capital investments. He also secured over $100 million in federal funding for entrepreneurship and green energy programs. Prior to serving at the IEDC, Peterson served as counsel for the South Bend Redevelopment Commission and the City of South Bend Board of Public Works on various real estate, municipal finance and economic development matters, and as an attorney at a large law firm counseling corporate and municipal clients on development, financing, and planning matters.

Peterson is a native of South Bend and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Economics and Public Policy from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business – Bloomington (2000) and a Juris Doctorate from the Notre Dame Law School (2003).
