Global Access Point Hires Shane M. Fimbel, Ph.D. As Chief Operating Officer
South Bend, IN, September 1, 2010 – Global Access Point announced that it has named Shane M. Fimbel, Ph.D. as Chief Operating Officer. As the COO, Dr. Fimbel will oversee daily operations and is responsible for maintaining the company’s IAAS (Infrastructure as a Service) model, with particular emphasis on meeting customers’ space, power, and connectivity needs. Kevin Smith, CEO and founder of Global Access Point, made the following statement concerning the addition of Dr. Fimbel, “To cement our leadership, we are evolving to meet the demands of our customers who rely on uninterrupted access and service to data stored in our facilities. In the role of COO, Dr. Fimbel will bring proven leadership and deep operating experience to the task of building our team for maximum effectiveness. We are excited to have Dr. Fimbel join the team to lead our business development efforts and technical operations.”
Prior to joining Global Access Point, Dr. Fimbel has over ten years of venture and start-up company experience with a focus on biotechnology, life science, medical devices, and pharmaceuticals. In his prior role at the Purdue Research Foundation, he was responsible for technology and market assessment, patent strategy, valuation, negotiation and licensing of Purdue University intellectual property assets. Dr. Fimbel worked to develop entrepreneurship by engaging start-up companies in a business advisory role and providing leadership during the formative stages of corporate development. He holds a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Notre Dame where he was a Reilly Fellow and performed research in the area of regenerative medicine. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Wabash College where he was an Eli Lilly Fellow. Dr. Fimbel is originally from the Michiana area, and is a graduate of Marian High School.
